It is one of the 14 pages of the Jurisdictions block, inside official figures. The raw data is in legal-data-2026.json.

What this block holds

Nunavut's rules for the end of a job sit in one statute, the Labour Standards Act, C.S.Nu., c. L-10, which the table also cites by its former reference, R.S.N.W.T. (Nu) 1988, c. L-1. The Act has no severance pay entitlement, so what people call severance in Nunavut is notice of termination or the pay in lieu of it.

Section 14.03 says notice is owed once you pass 90 days of employment, and sets how much on a ladder that tops out at 8 weeks. Section 14.01 says when a layoff stops being temporary. Section 14.07 adds a second duty when 25 or more people lose their jobs together: notice to the Labour Standards Officer. Section 16 sets vacation pay as a share of wages that rises with service, and section 50 gives your employer ten days to settle the final pay, whether you quit or were let go.

Only the holiday list carries a start date: eleven general holidays from June 13, 2022, including Nunavut Day, which no other jurisdiction has. Nothing here is indexed. The figures stay put until the Act is amended.

How to read the table

Figure tells you what the number is for, Value gives it, Source names the section, Validity shows a start date where one is recorded, and Status tells you how far it has been checked. The complaint deadline row is a good test: its Value is None, its Source is s. 53, and its note explains that the Labour Standards Officer may act at any time; the Act's only limit is two years, for a prosecution. It is marked Verified, so Sergio read it in the Act. A Secondary source label would signal a number computed from government figures, with the arithmetic shown. Not yet verified would keep a number off every other page.

These are parameters, not your answer: your service, your wages and any better contract term decide what you're owed.

Where the site uses these figures

The Nunavut notice and termination pay guide and the severance pay calculator read the notice ladder, the vacation percentages and the ten-day final pay rule from this table, and the Employment Insurance page for Nunavut picks up once the job ends. The layoff limit and the holidays are set in context in temporary layoff rules across Canada and statutory holidays by province and territory, and the notice to the Officer on the page about large layoffs.

Status: Verified = read in the primary source; Secondary source = worked out by us from official figures, arithmetic shown; Not yet verified = not confirmed in the primary source, and so not published as a firm figure on any other page. The detail is in rule three of the methodology.

The Act counts 90 days of employment, not three months.
How we read it: The Act owes notice once you have been employed "for a period of 90 days or more" and does not say how to count the days. We count every calendar day from your first day to your last day, both included, so a job that ran from April 2 to June 30 is 90 days and earns notice, and one day less does not. If your count lands within a day or two of 90, confirm with the Labour Standards Compliance Office.
