Winnipeg brick warehouses, a railway yard with freight cars and a river bridge.

It is one of the 14 pages of the Jurisdictions block, inside official figures. The raw data is in legal-data-2026.json.

What this block holds

Manitoba's rows set the floor for a job that ends: the notice your employer owes by length of service, the notice you owe when you resign, the point where a layoff counts as a termination, vacation pay, general holidays, how fast final pay is due and how long you have to complain. Manitoba has no separate statutory severance pay.

Almost everything comes from The Employment Standards Code, C.C.S.M. c. E110. Section 61 holds the notice schedule, s. 62 the 30-day qualifying period, s. 62.1 employee notice, s. 67 the group rules for 50 or more employees, s. 34 vacation, s. 21 the general holidays, s. 86 final pay and s. 87 complaints. One table has a different source: the layoff limit comes from the Employment Standards Regulation, s. 23. Only the holiday count shows a Validity date, From 2023-12-07.

These numbers are not indexed. A new value appears only when the Code or the Regulation is amended. The holiday rules stay the same while the dates move: Louis Riel Day and Thanksgiving Day fall on different days each year.

How to read the table

Take the final pay row: 10 days, Source s. 86, Status Verified. The Figure note adds a detail the Value can't show: these are working days, not calendar days. The complaint row builds on it, since its 6 months run from the day the wages were due, which after a termination is those 10 working days after your last day. Read the note before the number. That's where Manitoba's quirks hide.

Validity gives a start date where the data file has one. Status sorts the rows into three groups: Verified, checked against the Code; Secondary source, derived by arithmetic from official numbers; and Not yet verified, which stays off every other page until confirmed. Every Manitoba row is Verified. A value in this table is a parameter. Whether it applies to you, and for how much, depends on your service, your pay and what happened.

Where the site uses these figures

The Manitoba guide to notice and wages in lieu draws on every row here, and the calculator for termination pay uses the s. 61 schedule. The group schedule of 10, 14 and 18 weeks is set out in Canada-wide rules for group terminations, the 8-in-16-week layoff limit in the rules on temporary layoffs, and the working-day deadline in final pay deadlines in each province. See also EI in Manitoba.

Status: Verified = read in the primary source; Secondary source = worked out by us from official figures, arithmetic shown; Not yet verified = not confirmed in the primary source, and so not published as a firm figure on any other page. The detail is in rule three of the methodology.

Thirty days, not three months. If a collective agreement sets a probationary period of one year or less, that period replaces the 30 days for the employees it covers.
How we read it: The Code owes no notice when your period of employment is less than 30 days and does not say how to count the days. We count every calendar day from your first day to your last day, both included, so a job that ran from April 2 to May 1 is 30 days and earns notice, and one day less does not. If your count lands within a day or two of 30, confirm with Manitoba Employment Standards.
